2009 Black & Gold Club Bash!

Everyone is invited to the 2009 Black & Gold Club Bash!  The event, which will feature a viewing of the Steelers away game (Steelers vs. Lions!) on the big screen, tailgate-style food, cash bar, raffles and prizes, and more, will be held on October 11th, 2009, from 12-4:40 at the Marriott at 777 Aten Rd. in Coraopolis.

All Black and Gold Club members will receive complimentary admission.  Everyone is welcome!  Tickets may be purchased for $20/adults, $10/children, and $50/family ticket (immediate family only please).

Bill grew up in the South Side and is now a resident at Bethany House in Brookline, along with his roommates Frank and Camille.  Bill is one of five Lopata brothers and makes a fantastic uncle!  He is proud of his Polish heritage and has taught many of us how to polka in his years with Emmaus.  Bill grew up serving Mass at St. Peter’s in the South Side and continues to do so at Our Lady of Loreto in Brookline.  He loves to grace us with his dramatic side at the annual talent show—and he does quite an impression of the The King!  Bill is without a doubt Pittsburgh’s #1 sports fan!  On game days, there’s no mistaking Bill’s loyalty.  You’ll find him perched in front of the TV, cheering on his team, and he never forgets to put out his giant inflatable Steeler in the front yard.  Emmaus wouldn’t be the same without Bill’s lively spirit!  Thank you, Bill, for sharing all your gifts with us!

Emmaus Black and Gold Club Announces February Winners!

Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers!  We know the Emmaus Black and Gold Club members were thrilled to cheer our team to victory last night, and we’re excited to announce that some of you are winners today as well!

At Emmaus, our mission demands that we do more than provide individuals with intellectual disabilities with a permanent place to live.  We provide true Homes.  Emmaus works to create a Community where all members—with and without disabilities—are able to grow and become whole.  That means sharing our lives, celebrating our successes, supporting one another through losses, praying, working hard, and breaking bread together.  Emmaus Resident Debbie Crighton has been part of our Community since the beginning.  Here’s a little more information about Debbie:

Founders Lorraine and Ken Wagner began the Emmaus Community in 1989, and Debbie Crighton joined us as the first Emmaus resident and lived with Ken and Lorraine at our Southside home, Emmaus House, in 1994.  Debbie enjoys spending time with her roommates, Carla and Diane.  A long time employee of Goodwill Industries, Debbie is known for being a hard worker, but also for her mischievous sense of humor and her frequent bursts of laughter.  In her free time, Debbie enjoys crafts—especially hook rugs and jewelry-making—and participating in Special Olympic basketball and swimming.  Be a friend to Debbie, and she’ll be the first to let you know—“You’re Number One!”

2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club Announces First Winners!

The 2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club has its first winners!

 The winner of the $200 Early Bird Special Drawing is Rosemary Kosiorek!

Now enjoying her full-time retirement at Elderberry Junction, Patty is our oldest resident and one of our liveliest!  Always eager to entertain her guests, Patty loves to share a good story, show off her beautiful South Side home, and shower her friends with a song.  She is known for her bright smile and her helping hands.  Patty is a proud great-aunt!  In 2008, Patty was honored with the Celebration of Success Award for her lifetime of achievement and inspiration.

Carla became an Emmaus resident in 2007.  She works at WPIC and lives in one of our South Side homes, Emmaus House, with roommates Diane and Debbie.  Carla is always full of energy and eager to help her friends out.  She enjoys art and spends a lot of time working on her projects.  Carla loves to celebrate birthdays and holidays and is always planning for the next party.  Known for her beautiful smile and her boundless excitement, Carla shares her joy with everyone around her!

Announcement: The 2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club just got even better!  In upcoming drawings, the Black and Gold Club will be giving away Pirates tickets for a luxury box overlooking beautiful PNC Park!  Winners will have the opportunity to enjoy a game in the comfort of a luxury box (food and drink included), in the company of friends and residents of Emmaus.  Try your luck with us!

Remember, members who pay their dues in full by December 23rd will be eligible for a special $200 Early Bird Special Drawing!

Emmaus Launches 2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club! Join Today!

^{The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived!  Emmaus is launching its brand new Emmaus Black and Gold Club in January of 2009.  For only $12/month, members will be eligible to win tickets to see all of their favorite Pittsburgh sports teams–the Steelers, the Penguins, the Pirates, the Pitt Panthers, and more!  Three lucky winners will receive a set of tickets each month.  There will also be a monthly drawing for either a $100 cash prize or a great sports memorabilia item, alternating each month.  An Emmaus Black and Gold Club membership is the perfect holiday gift for your favorite Pittsburgh sports fanatic.} 

Many of our residents will spend 2009 cheering on the teams they loved and celebrating with their friends at the beautiful homes provided by Emmaus.  However, many other people with intellectual disabilities remain in need.  By joining the 2009 Black and Gold Club, you will be supporting our mission of providing permanent homes to individuals with intellectual disabilities and promoting the public awareness of their needs.

Emmaus cannot grow without your help.  Pay your $120 dues in full before December 23rd and you will be entered into the $200 Early Bird Special Drawing.  All members will receive a complimentary ticket to our 2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club Party, to be held in October of 2009.  The party will feature cash prizes and raffles, plus great food and fun.  We hope you’re as excited about the new club as we are!  Please fill out a Membership Application form and return it to Emmaus to become a member of the 2009 Emmaus Black and Gold Club.
